HAPPENING NOW: A group of protesters have reportedly taken over the intersection on Beacon Hill where someone on a bike was killed by a hit-and-run driver early this morning. I'm not on the scene yet, but was sent this photo from Beacon Avenue and Stevens Street.

Another life lost in Seattle due to a hit‑and‑run. The intersection was improved, but in my opinion, until we enforce traffic laws and hold drivers accountable, it will be hard to achieve Vision Zero.

We have a lot of beautiful bike lanes, but this one really shines after dark

I don’t know what’s going on with drivers this week. Yes, it’s frustrating to drive in the rain, but you still need to stop at a stop sign and yield to pedestrians. This person saw multiple cars blow through the stop sign, and then one driver clearly wasn’t paying attention and could have hit her.

It’s still a work in progress, but there have been good improvements on the Union St bike lane. The concrete curb and the “No Turn on Red” sign make this segment much better. The bus stop could be improved, though I know it wasn’t within the scope of this project.

After about 5 minutes stuck at a red light (which felt like a very long time) and multiple cycles, I decided to go against the red at this complex intersection. Cars often get green by default, but the bike lane relies on a flaky sensor across the street from a K–8 school.

It’s crazy that this is still up for debate after we spent more than $3 billions and years constructing the light rail extension to Federal Way. Building sidewalks and safe routes to new stations should be a non-negotiable requirement for any new station.

This bike crossing has zero visibility and is often blocked by cars, but some kind people added homemade “bike crossing” signs to mark it. Thank you! Crossing here is dangerous, but the crosswalk somehow manages to be worse.

Recently, I’ve been reporting bike lane obstructions on @bikelaneuprising.bsky.social, since Seattle no longer accepts online reports for parking violations. It’s a useful tool for gathering data on where bike lanes need improvement.
