For example, if we didn't have to spend >$1,700/mo. on childcare for my 3.5 y/o, I could afford to be unemployed for far, far longer than our current burn rate. If Minnesota instituted free, universal childcare it would be the single greatest investment in any state's economy in decades. An order of magnitude more effective than any suite of tax credits or sweetheart financing deal. Companies very often go where their workers are. This is just free money.

I'm not pulling this reply out to dunk on this person. In fact, it's something I have struggled with personally. Where I land on this specific property is that calling civilian authorities is harm reduction. This building is extremely dangerous and had one tiny exit. It is a literal death trap.

the best part of being friends with so many employment lawyers is that I'm like "I got fired 😔" and they're like "man FUCK your boss" and I'm like "no, wait, let me explain I probably bear some responsibility here" and every one of them is like "nah man, DOUBLE FUCK your boss."

A bunch of folks have kindly asked how they can help me. I'm weird about taking money, given that I was recently a relatively well-compensated attorney and my wife has her own employment. After a baby and cancer, we don't have a ton of savings, but we do have some and this is what they're for.

Dan is a wonderful guy and any employer would be lucky to have him. But not until November 5th because he is busy helping me get elected to the Board of Estimate and Taxation.
