In this article Frey dismisses criticism of his nomination O’Hara as coming from the same people who always criticize him only for a couple paragraphs down Cedric Alexander and CM Vetaw to say they both brought concerns to him about O’Hara and he refused to act.

Frey says O’Hara broke trust, couldn’t continue as chief after meddling in investigation
The Minneapolis mayor, facing criticism from city council members, defended his process for handling the independent investigations that ultimately led the police chief to resign.

Cedric Alexander, O’Hara’s former boss, said Frey failed to heed repeated warnings regarding O’Hara’s “problematic behavior” in 2022 and 2023, and scoffed at the mayor’s decision to allow him to resign. “I went to [Frey] a number of times and Jacob turned a deaf ear to it.”

Last night, Brian O’Hara resigned as Chief of Police after a report concluded that he interfered with an ongoing investigation into his alleged sexual misconduct. O’Hara’s resignation is a symptom of a larger problem: Mayor Frey’s failure to effectively manage the Minneapolis Police Department.

Great people worked very hard last year to push media to report on the investigations and allegations surrounding O'Hara because Mpls voters deserved to know these facts before Election Day. Questions of Frey's leadership aside, there should be a reckoning for the editors who killed those stories.

Minneapolis City Council members should be doubling down on a waste, fraud and abuse message regarding Frey and O'Hara. MPD has delivered 10s of millions in budgetary overruns the past two years under O'Hara's watch and he and Barnett cannot even answer basic questions about it. Frey in charge 1/3

Jacob Frey and Star Tribune leadership worked incredibly hard to kill this story for over a year to cover up Frey deleting his texts after the shooting of Davis Moturi and ICE's Lake Street raid on June 3rd. O'Hara deleting his texts was learned from his boss.

Why in the hell was a Chief under investigation being re-nominated by the Mayor? How much of our tax dollars will now go to the folks who were victims of the wrong doings of that Chief? Can some reporter please keep following this? Feels like enormous malfeasance by the mayor.

It was a massive error in judgment for Mayor Frey to nominate Chief O’Hara while there were active investigations into very serious accusations that had been rumored for months. This is what happens when you prioritize optics and political expediency over governance and accountability.

The real question media should be asking is what did Frey know and when did he know it. Frey reappointed O’Hara 19 days ago. For Frey to claim he only learned today is fishy and raises questions about his admin’s internal investigations.
