“Minneapolis ward boundaries changed slightly between 2021 and 2025 due to redistricting.” That’s a major understatement. Ward 3 shedded nearly 10k voters in redistricting. Ward 2 lost 5k voters. If you’re reporting on voter turnout, either compare with current precinct boundaries or don’t do it.

We tried everything to win. We raised the money (nearly $700K), we knocked over 200K doors and increased turnout, we ran very strong communications, and got the broadest range of endorsements. We even got the DFL endorsement, although only briefly. It wasn’t enough.

A lot of people REALLY WANTED Omar Fateh to run for mayor and I think that’s getting missed. He’s been an incredible state senator and is well-loved.

Fateh stepped up when no other legislator wanted to. We owe him a lot. And his run and citywide organizing helped us keep a progressive majority.

Agree with everything Ryan wrote in this thread. During GOTV, Fateh knocked 80k doors and our IE table knocked 20k doors. Top notch field and political staff, unprecedented partnerships with Council and Park campaigns and a motivated volunteer base driven by DSA pushed Frey and his $$ to the brink.

Expanding on this some. I find the “Omar never had a path to victory” takes silly and unfounded. Moving 3-4% of the electorate is nearly always within a campaign’s ability. I think treating this result as inevitable leaves our only lesson as “better candidates”, and that’s a pretty poor lesson.

Last night, @michaelforparks.bsky.social and I finally were able to door-knock renters in a building owned by John Wall. Wall prioritized his own politics before his legal responsibility as a landlord. After taking him to court, he was found in violation of the law repeatedly.
