We had a great time at the annual holiday party hosted last week by the Minneapolis Regional Labor Federation. Thank you to the @mplsunions.bsky.social for bringing together labor leaders, union members, and elected officials in joy and solidarity!

It was great to join @sorenwithward8.bsky.social and @twincitiesdsa.org for a post election townhall. Whether it's knocking doors or setting the terms of debate at City Hall, socialists are an undeniable force in Minneapolis.

Last week City Council unanimously strengthened our Separation Ordinance. Yesterday, MPD helped ICE by doing crowd control while they kidnapped neighbors. Mayor Frey continues to let MPD use a loophole to work with ICE and only he can stop what residents witnessed yesterday. buff.ly/gllRzKu

Disheartening to see federal agents take two neighbors on 29th & Pillsbury. Chemical irritants were used on observers by them. MPD showed up on scene, created a pathway for these federal agents to kidnap our neighbors, and assisted with controlling the space. Disappointing and heartbreaking.

MPD blew through their budget this year… and for what? Women of color like Allison Lussier and Mariah Samuels died after MPD neglected them. MPD left victims of racist violence like Davis Moturi left without answers. Amir Locke’s murderer was promoted to use-of-force training.

On Tuesday night, our City Council unanimously passed the 2026 budget! The budget now heads to Mayor Frey to sign. All 12 of my budget amendments passed successfully.

I’m horrified by the abduction of an undergraduate Augsburg student by ICE over the weekend. ICE pointed guns at students and staff and refused to produce a warrant despite being on private property.

All of us do everything in our power to keep our loved ones safe, whether we’re born here or moved to make Minneapolis our home. But before our very eyes, Trump is ordering his masked secret police to kidnap our immigrant neighbors and terrorize our communities.

Given their vulnerability to falls, you’d think the city’s senior residents would enthusiastically support municipal sidewalk plowing (but my conversations with legacy members of the DFL Senior Caucus prove otherwise) I appreciate the councilmembers who are promoting walkability for all

Requiring homeowners to shovel sidewalks is the logical equivalent of mandating all cars be mounted with a snowplower attachment and rear salt/sand spreader so the city can retire its useless wasteful fleet of taxpayer funded snowplow trucks.

Truly. The current state of our streets, protected bikelanes and sidewalks is proof of what happens when we fund municipal clearing vs leave snow clearing to property owners. In a city w/ mode shift & climate goals, we *must* do more to ensure sidewalks are cleared of snow.

Everything about growing older and wiser has radicalized me in favor of municipal sidewalk plowing. There are cities that can’t figure out street plowing, and our snow emergency is as efficient as all get out. There’s no reason we can’t become efficient in this too.

On Friday, City Council voted to undo Mayor Frey’s cuts to our sidewalk plowing pilots because the return of winter shouldn’t mean risking slips and falls on icy sidewalks every time it snows. Safely getting around our city should be a basic function of our government.

I have a grand total of zero patience left for the top paid city staff in charge of community safety not being able to answer basic questions about crime trends and personnel allocations as we deliberate our budget.
