Last week City Council unanimously strengthened our Separation Ordinance. Yesterday, MPD helped ICE by doing crowd control while they kidnapped neighbors. Mayor Frey continues to let MPD use a loophole to work with ICE and only he can stop what residents witnessed yesterday. buff.ly/gllRzKu

When a fed agent says "we need help" in calling MPD, and MPD shows up, that's MPD helping. The whole point is that these abductions are illegitimate. They are the opposite of public safety. An "aid an officer" call from one of these abductions should not be treated as legitimate by local gov.

So not only is MPD allowed to blatantly disregard their budget. Overspending $20M of the public dollar. But they also seem to be allowed to disregard the stronger separation ordinance that was UNANIMOUSLY passed by council. Someone want to remind me who the sole boss of the police force is?

Disheartening to see federal agents take two neighbors on 29th & Pillsbury. Chemical irritants were used on observers by them. MPD showed up on scene, created a pathway for these federal agents to kidnap our neighbors, and assisted with controlling the space. Disappointing and heartbreaking.

When Frey says that he's going to veto the humane encampment response ordinance while maintaining his administration's encampment policies, that is him telling us that he's okay with this sort of thing. Same goes for the CMs that voted against the ordinance.

It's clear from the article that ICE is *miserable* here. They're freezing their asses off and being harassed everywhere they go. Property managers aren't allowing them access to rental properties and people know their rights and aren't letting them in. KEEP IT UP.

The Democratic Party's formula for the last 50 years has been "Let's be friendly with extreme wealth and maybe we can also get modest policy wins sometimes." The last 10 years and this year in particular should be conclusive proof of how badly this has failed. But we're stuck with it anyway

Just remembering how a City Council candidate expressly said "if you elect wacky leftists Donald Trump may come invade Minnesota," and so many more dogwhistled it about Omar Fateh, then we reelected Frey and the Council swung two votes back towards the conservatives and ICE is here anyway 🤷‍♂️

The back and forth on the council was the same old debate. Palmisano: Encampments aren't safe, I can't support this Chughtai & Chowdhury: But encampments exist and will continue to do so. We should probably mitigate the harms, and create a consistent and clear expectations for the response.

Reminder Minnesota: Congresswoman Angie Craig voted for the Lake Riley Act that took away due process from immigrants. She is partly responsible for the kidnapping of immigrants and families being ripped apart.

Friends, we have some positive news tonight out of the Constitution, Bylaws, and Rules Committee re: the DFL Feminist Caucus. The TL;DR of it is the entire feminist caucus leadership has to either undergo extensive training, or resign within 10 days.

Hey Minneapolis Police. ICE is blocking traffic for school buses. Still just going to sit on the sidelines? O’Hara gets a nice glossy presser to say “not all law enforcement folks are bad!” But what is department doing to earn the trust of the community right now? Being a passive bystander? Lame!

I know it’s fun to watch Dems rip Republican officials to shreds in various hearings. But whatever happens after that? Nothing! The Republicans just keep doing it anyway! They know it doesn’t matter how many times these clips get ran on MSNBC or CNN/Kalshi. Toothless opposition.

This is disgusting and below the DFL. I think Madel is bad for a bunch of reasons, but representing people charged with crimes is not one of them. Standing between the power of the State and a criminal defendant is an honorable thing no matter what they're accused of or whether they're found guilty.

Council President Payne on Frey admin/Barnette saying they'll start a conversation around more oversight in December, as council finalizes budget: "That was as shocking to me as the actual dollar figure of the overbudget." Conversations should have started beginning of the year.

why should the city of minneapolis pay to acquire parking ramps that will only be used by drivers? drivers need to stop being subsidized, the idea of using our tax dollars to fund free parking in a ramp is so selfish and greedy. will you fund our bus passes too?

From watching the meeting, the biggest deal for me is that Frey/Barnette/MPD aren't prepared with a 2026 budget that accounts for all these things, even though they've been dealing with it for most of 2025.

The enormous gap between perception/media coverage/“common sense” ideology re public safety on one hand, and reality on another. In a nutshell.

Weird. Because @deenawinter.bsky.social said on Twitter that not even council knew about this until recently. So is the Minneapolis Chief of Police saying he knew his department was grossly over budget. He knew in Q2, but he did not report this at all? Might need a follow up to this story…
