I listened to one episode of this podcast, about Gabriele d'Annunzio. The host gave what he said was a plot summary of d'Annunzio's book Il Piacere, which seemed ... extreme for 1889. I eventually found he'd been reading out the Wikipedia entry for a completely unrelated porno film of the same title

I'm trying listening to that Behind The Bastards episode about Jimmy Savile and this is just unlistenable. Full of basic factual inaccuracies and the hosts stop to make sneery jokes about Britain being a place where towns have silly names (like "Leeds") because they can't be bothered to read

Another favorite comedy is DR PYCKLE AND MR PRYDE, a solo Stan Laurel Jekyll and Hyde spoof. His Hyde engages in remarkably petty practical jokes, which the other characters treat as the worst possible crimes and their overreactions are the backbone of the film. It's wonderful.

It's entirely possible I've time-travelled 62 years back to May 3rd 1964 as we've a very important opt later (as Mr Network Announcer will explain). Wales needs its Perry Mason fix.

Rewind TV has started showing 90s sitcom Haggard today, so on Wednesday 9th July you can see Paul Darrow as Mad Jack, in full Darrowing glory.

I once read a long review of that programme. I say 'long', but it was only 30 lines.

Coffee table book? Yes please. Very much so. These photographs please, and also whatever survives for Shadows, Tomorrow People, Ace of Wands, all the "scare-the-little-buggers-to-death" HTV stuff... It's all so evocative, so lovely, so inventive and so downright *weird*.

Don't see the problem myself. If I were especially afraid of ghosts, like the writer, I too would rather have a piece of toast than see one. Though it is a bit "dog bites man" and I'd be more interested in the perspective of a coeliac parapsychologist, trying to see ghosts but avoid bread products.

Weird the stuff that gets multi-disc reissues. Just got an email from Cherry Red promoting their latest releases, including a 4CD+DVD box of Lulu's Independence, her 90s dance album that only made number sixty-seven on the charts and got mediocre reviews.

I say without any sarcasm that the wine-tasting episode is one of the funniest things I've ever seen.

I've bought a few complete sets of sitcoms in case of a depressive episode. I like American ones because they have huge episode counts. Barney Miller and WKRP are good ones.
