Just thinking of 70s model Basil Brush's amazing exchanges with his sidekicks - primarily Mr Roy - when they get tetchy and we should definitely bring that sort of thing back into modern usage.

Another run of "Hidden Treasures" on BBC4 Extra this week, every day at 3pm. I'll flag up the rest in a minute, but just look what we've got on Thursday afternoon - from Midweek Theatre, 5th July 1967 - "A Criminal Practice" by Terrance Dicks.

No question about the worst - Code of Honor is probably my least favourite episode of any iteration of Star Trek. Best? Conspiracy, no question.

Delighted as all get out to discover there's a digital collection of "Siadwel" out there. All three series in one bundle. Everyone should have as much John Sparkes as possible in their lives. This message has been brought to you by the letters "Ach", "Y" and "Fi".

Out this week in 1978 - the first issue of "Star Wars Weekly". Featured the Marvel adaptation by Thomas, Chaykin and Leialoha. Owing to the split for the weekly you have to wait for #2 to enjoy the Dark Lord having a nice cup of coffee as he works. He finds your lack of caffeine disturbing.

I love the Eighth Doctor and Charlotte Pollard stuff. God knows, I was rarely more happy than I was when I heard that Big Finish had managed to snag Paul McGann to do new plays. It still delights me that he's still doing them. I can't deny though, that this Cyberman looks like he's facepalming.

On Charles Dickens's birthday, I'm suddenly reminded that "Dickensian" was a thing, back in 2015. A Tony Jordan attempt at a Dickens shared universe, where everyone lives in the same neighbourhood while Inspector Bucket investigates the murder of Jacob Marley. Odd, odd thing.

I know I say this most weeks when following football coverage, but we're drowning in stats. It's always been there, but it's a swamp now. "The Clarets have an xG of just 0.21." "First goal since December 2024" "22 league games since they last kept a clean sheet" and on it goes.

Val Guest! Don Kirshner! Harry Saltzman! Together again for the first time! "Toomorrow" starring Olivia Newton-John comes to blu-ray in June from BFI. Features a CFF short about a pop group with drum-playing chimp, if you need further encouragement.

Having seen what this is, it's heartening to know that the spirit of Jackanory in some way survives. Everyone should have stories read aloud to them, perhaps especially by beloved elder statesmen of pop music.

Aye, aye. Look what's just popped up on Audible, release date of June this year. The original Terrance version of "The Stones of Blood". That's rather pleasing. Presumably the original "Androids of Tara" is coming along as well.

Giving "i/o" by that promising young newcomer Peter Gabriel another spin this morning. God, it's good. You usually only get a new one from him every ice age or so but it's pretty much always, always great. One of the best back catalogues in music, far as I'm concerned.

All my years of X-Files fandom, I missed the glow-in-the-dark popup book and the cookbook. Certainly I can't actually identify what the hell that is that's being cooked. Presumably it was fried in black, black oil.

It's that most magical time of the year, when once again I remember Bob's VHS collection from "House of Fools". Definitely a Star Trek CIC video in there; a Cliff Richard tape; a copy of Clear and Present Danger, and is that a Ripping Yarns collection as well?

Burning Shed newsletter informs me that 10cc's Santa Monica 1975 FM broadcast is getting a CD release shortly. Delighted to see this - I've had an off-air tape of it for years and it's quite superb. The original four (with Paul Burgess working with Kev) are *thunderous* on stage.

It doesn't unnerve me, but there's very little gets me teary and nostalgic quite so badly as the sight (and more essentially, the sound - millitaristic Lethbridge Stewart march or bippity boppity bippity boppity) of that thing does. I get ridiculously misty eyed.
