Today’s #SpringArrivalSpotlight glides in quietly...it’s the Garganey! A rare and elegant dabbling duck, the male’s white eye-stripe and scalloped flanks are a springtime treat. Favouring quiet, shallow wetlands, they migrate from central Africa to breed in the UK each year.

The Whinchat hops into our #SpringArrivalSpotlight today, breeding in the north and west of the UK. With its striking eye stripe and warm breast, it's a joy to spot in our grasslands and meadows.

An Easter Monday treat...Puffins pitter patter into our #SpringArrivalSpotlight today! 😍 Arriving in April from the North Atlantic, their unmistakable colourful bills are the heralds of spring on our cliffs. Look out for these adorable seabirds returning to nesting sites.

The Grasshopper Warbler creeps its way into today's #SpringArrivalSpotlight. A master of concealment, this warbler is rarely spotted - listen carefully for it's high, trilling, insect-like song. On the conservation Red List, these little birds are a special spring visitor.

Today's #SpringArrivalSpotlight: the Little Ringed Plover! These sweet little waders return from March, favouring gravelly riverbanks & wetlands. Spot their bright yellow eye-ring & swift, darting movements as they forage.

Today, the Government stepped back from the most damaging recommendations that threatened to gut the laws protecting our most precious places for nature. With wildlife already in crisis, anything else would have been reckless. But avoiding the worst is not enough. Nature needs ambitious action.
