Very late to the party, but I finally started watching the Netflix Daredevil series, surprised and delighted to discover that I'm loving it. It also sent me running back to reread Born Again, "Artists Edition" or whatever it's called. Mazzuchelli is, as always, unbelievable.

Ah, Valerie Perrine, that's a shame. Whenever I go back and watch those first two Superman movies, new breadths to her performance make themselves known. She brought so much sass, sadness, psychosis and vulnerability to her portrayal of a comic book baddie's moll, what a gem.

Today's throwback Columbo episode from Just One More Thing is Double Exposure, a Robert Culp episode it took us *forever* to get to. I think we were hoping a subliminal advertising expert we could book as a guest would pop up out of the woodwork.

Dozing off last night and briefly attended by the dreamy vision of Mr. Humphries delivering Radar's announcement from the end of the Abyssinia, Henry episode of MASH.

When they reprinted Nemesis the Warlock in the US, they got Sam Kieth on covers because who else could?

The World's Greatest Superheroes was DC Comic's big daily newspaper strip between '78 and '85, a mixed bag at best. I've got a complete run of strips, though I'm torn on whether it's worth sharing or writing much about. Whatever the case, it did introduce perhaps the ugliest villain design ever:

I think you should be able to switch sides in sports and make it stick. If you can find someone on the other team to trade with, you just switch jerseys and, bam, you used to be an Oriole, now you're a Pirate. During games only, really liven things up.

Snowflame, the supervillain powered by cocaine, really makes a great case for it:

Glad to have been rewatching Seeds of Doom over the last couple of nights. I didn't dig it as a young'un but I find that it has enjoyable one-off characters that really speak to my more refined, mature tastes: The flamboyant old country marm and an effete criminal who's horny for squash.

An absolutely unhinged sequence, god bless Golden Age comics.

Every time you try to do this thing where you exactly quantify with a definition human consciousness, you take one of the great mysteries and bind it with mechanistic limits that are 1) inevitably incorrect and 2) cheapen the mystery. You are setting a base price for your worth and driving it down.

Can't help but believe that something fundamental broke in the American consciousness either because of or around the same time that the Undertaker went patriotic.

Here's an interesting two-page 1943 advertisement for famous strongman/stuntman Joe Bonomo's "Bonomo Boys' Health Club," looks to be drawn by Pete Costanza of Captain Marvel/Captain Tootsie fame (but might be Beck, I leave it to the Fawcett heads to figure out).
