In 1929 the big Dutch department store chain V&D tried to buy the Van der Pigge chemist in the Dutch city of Haarlem. But their offer was declined so they had to build around the little building. Some years ago V&D went bankrupt. Van der Pigge is still doing great!

In 1943 it became fashion in Denmark to wear knitted/crocheted blue, white & red hats which resembled the Royal Air Force roundels, a subtle way to show everybody who's side they were on during the war. The Germans were not amused and banned them.
