i think some decent people hold the idea that fascists need excuses to do evil, because it’s hard to wrap their heads around the cruelty otherwise. the truth is, fascists have never needed excuses. they’ll opportunistically *take* an excuse if it appears, but they’ll just fabricate one otherwise.
