whenever I'm feeling uncertain or uncomfortable around kids/about whether I should intervene, I think of mr. caine and how the only reason he came out was NOTICING, and courage to do something about it. there was no external validation for him. he did it for no other reason than because it was good

They're also wonderful, capable of innocent joy and earnest appreciation and sometimes you will do something so small for them that they will latch onto as such a deep kindness it will make you cry. And they are so vulnerable. You have to be kind to them. It's just literally required to be good.

I work with kids every day. Kids are annoying. Kids are exhausting. Kids are needy and loud and generally not aware you are in a burnout spiral around the abyss. And their parents can be nightmares. None of that matters though, you have to be nice to them because they are *kids.*

Spent all afternoon/evening in and out of this and man, I just loved it. Hard to say more without going heavy spoilers mode on main but I really treasure a story that loves its fantasy elements, its real-world concerns, and its characters this well, and WHAT a treat to look at

My hot take is that it's not that younger people are anti-sex scenes but that they really just want more diverse content and themes in their media. There are almost no movies or TV shows targeted toward teens, and kids movies/TV are mostly just cartoons. Even YA books are often targeted for adults.

Just finished @keezyyoung.bsky.social's Hello Sunshine. It's fantastic, both literally and figuratively. I highly recommend it if you're into graphic novels or horror at all.

I stayed up late to finish this and it really took me back to dealing with pain and trauma as a young person while figuring out how to live and trying to hold onto anything resembling hope. A great supernatural coming of age book with twists and turns that will leave you breathless by the end. 10/10

Just finished reading this and the art is phenomenal! But damn, I used to work with kids with trauma disorders and this really hit me in a way I didn't expect. What a heart wrenchingly beautiful story (pg 305 healed something in me fr) This one gets a spot on the stuff-I-recommend-to-others shelf ❤️

I finished this book yesterday and what a great read! The artwork & story is stunning, there's many little things scattered around each scene that sometimes leave you going "wait a minute!" Theres a segment that i cant spoil but the art felt so suffocating and loud it was so good. Highly reccomend!

cw: assault this is exactly what i was talking about yesterday re: child abuse. the secondary trauma of the personal/societal/institutional response to abuse or assault can be just as damaging as the initial event (and not just in terms of immediate aftermath; it's also about cultural shaming etc!)
