So completely surrounded by a message that “love is what makes a family.” I knew trans grownups and later trans kids around my age. Growing up after the worst of AIDS, in a gay neighborhood, knowing so many people who survived to rebuild after losing friends and lovers and families.

People with gay parents were like people who were adopted or who had more than two siblings. Their homes just looked like a different illustration in the library book about families. Harder to imagine an apartment big enough for 4 kids. God I was so lucky. I wish every kid was as lucky as I was

I get the spirit but I feel like anyone in public school at the time of "Born This Way" knows at least half a dozen guys who literally came out because of Lady Gaga. Living through the period of "Born This Way" (2011) -> Obergefell (2015) was a whirl wind in how public opinion can radically change.

I think often of the women in the Louis CK story—how they all left comedy and never went back, but he’s still going. It’s everywhere and it’s such a loss for them and for us—for things they’ll never make that we’ll never see.

My entire generational cohort of female editors--who were pretty numerous--is gone from DH. Many of them no longer work in the comics industry. This is not exceptional. I cannot emphasize how exceptional this is not.

When I was in comics, I was lucky enough to have an incredible boss who looked out for & protected me, & who remains a good friend. I was 19 & he was quick to warn me about the men to stay away from and provide cover. There were still moments, but I don’t know what I would’ve done without him
