The original purpose of LLMs is still one that I think is genuinely useful and cool: Translate web pages. Not like translate a novel and keep the nuance, etc, but a quick and dirty translation that's good enough to get the point. But that's not a trillion dollar industry.

We call these things hallucinations at our peril. The LLM isn't really hallucinating, it simply doesn't know anything. It's always trying to say what it calculates the next thing that should be said is. But that metric for "should be said" has no relationship to reality, only to what HAS been said
