We in the legal profession really need to have a moment of introspection about how our commitment to "civility" above all else didn't just enable everything we're seeing now, it helped *cause* it. Some arguments should not be met with civility. Sometimes civility only serves oppression.

Any trans folks you know who were born in or live in North Carolina should update the gender marker on their documents as soon as possible. This includes birth certificates and all IDs.

Hot take: every judge should get trauma informed training on domestic violence and sexual abuse before sitting in any family, eviction, criminal, or foreclosure court. Way too many judges have no idea how to judge the credibility of survivors and, worse, think they actually *do.*

this is a good illustration of what “compromise” on trans rights looks like. there’s no “everyone gets rights but we take it easy on the pronouns.” if you head down that road you will end up denying that trans people are real.

John Roberts really is the exact antithesis of Earl Warren. Warren said the SCOTUS has a duty and authority to do whatever is necessary to serve the public good. Roberts says the SCOTUS has no power to help people or restore rights, only hurt them or take them away.

there is no jurisprudence at work here. the republican court believes that anything a republican president is presumptively constitutional, even if it directly violates the unambiguous constitutional text and causes total chaos in law and policy.
