The acts they choose, reflect what they think their base will respond positively to. It tells you how they see you. Mamdani thinks that you want to see him help his neighbors shovel their snow. He thinks that you love your neighbor and want to help them. Not kill them, or throw their things away.

All politicians do performative acts of service. Some choose to do pull-ups with soldiers while calling them "war fighters" and ignoring all of their worth and value other than hate and killing. Some choose to participate in homeless sweeps, and revel in throwing away what little people have left.
