Monterey Park in LA County is now the first city in the country where voters have banned data centers. At the ballot box residents overwhelmingly chose to ban data center construction, voting 86%-14% in favor of the indefinite moratorium.

A proposal for a one-year data center moratorium has been introduced in New York. If it passes New York will be the first state to have such a moratorium.

In the US, spending on data center construction now exceeds spending on public transportation infrastructure — including airports, marine terminals, and all mass transit. In April alone over $50 billion was spent in data center construction.

The Massachusetts AG is suing UnitedHealthcare Insurance, saying it defrauded the state’s Medicaid program of at least $100 million. AG Andrea Joy Campbell claims UnitedHealthcare Insurance manipulated the health status of certain members to get higher payments from the state.

Exxon is now warning that oil prices could go as high as $160 per barrel in the coming weeks as reserves are depleted. The company's senior vice president says, "We're approaching unheard of inventory levels. I mean really, really low levels."

BREAKING: Bernie Sanders will introduce a bill to have the public take a 50% ownership stake in the country's biggest AI companies. The American AI Sovereign Wealth Fund Act would have the government tax AI companies, take 50% of the stock, and put it under public control.

USPS is now on the verge of dramatically limiting voting by mail. The postal service is proposing a rule to limit mail-in voting for the midterms, expanding federal control over voting without congressional approval. It's a big step in Trump's plan to take over elections.

Illinois has two competing bills that both claim to end surveillance pricing. The one in the House is a weak bill with major exemptions that companies would exploit. The Senate version would do far more to stop companies from using your personal data to set the price you pay.
