I take public transportation a lot, and I have now gone weeks without a single trip in which someone isn’t playing something on their phone at full volume sans headphones. Normalize hitting people that do this on the head with a section of pool noodle until they stop

Every single interaction with this post — replies, QTs — is perfect. I for one thinks it looks like pistachio pudding, which I like, and so is causing me some pretty hilarious cognitive dissonance

The Bible makes a huge point about how John the Baptist's whole deal was like "I'm pretty cool, right? But there's somebody EVEN COOLER coming, and then I'm just gonna fuck off forever" I always preferred the version where that's editorializing, and the relationship between the two was more like

how to explain canada? the town I was born in changed their name in WW2 because of the Nazis, and so they renamed it to honor a guy who oversaw concentration camps in south africa. at the same time there was a town named Swastika that the government tried to rename but the residents removed the sign

There is a general and really harmful tendency to conflate “persuasion” with *organizing.* Kirk was a good organizer, which often looks like being a good persuader, because of the below: suddenly all these people who already held these views got permission to be loud about them.

I had an old colleague who was kind of an ass in many respects but he had this term he would use—“Family Nazi”—to describe the sociopathic tendency of many parents to drop all pretense of living in a society if it means their children will get ahead. It lives in my brain rent-free.
