It's a neat argument because he's not leaning at all on the quality of the homily's prose or the creativity required to write it, but the intersubjective exchange it consummates.

Reminder: The phrase "pull yourself up by your bootstraps" was originally meant to be sarcastic, bc it's impossible. Anyone using it to mean "work harder" is illustrating a fundamental lack of understanding of language, work, physics, *and* boots.

Urgh-inducing piece about my alma mater. One correction tho: the Mattin Center for the Arts ruled, actually. Can’t even have that now!

a lot of ppl in the USA would’ve said this exact thing less than a decade ago, and a lot of ppl who live in countries with large far-right political movements rapidly gaining ground (often helped by the same tech billionaire players as here) seem too busy looking askance at the States to notice

We need to build some real social stigma around being afraid of cities. You don't have to like them or live there, but a politics built this strongly around watching TV and going "ewww" is embarrassing, and people should be embarrassed by it. It's like "fear of werewolves" being your top issue.

Franzi Schimmer captured this Grizzly bear in Brooks Falls, Alaska just floating along, tippy-tapping down the river, browsing the salmon. Prior to hibernation, up to 40% of a bear's body mass is fat, which is less dense than water (~0.9 g/cm^2), so the murder-monster is also a floaty-boaty.

For the past couple of years I’ve been working on a weird little collection of poems about the Kaua’i ‘akioloa, a Hawaiian honeycreeper that was the last member of its whole genus. I’m over the moon to say that said collection has found a home at Flume Press:

It's already demoralizing to be a federal thug, a barely sentient ogre. Nobody likes or respects you. But then you go to work in -19 weather thinking surely today you'll get a break from people yelling at you. But no there they are. They're not even cold
