I had dinner once with Harlan Ellison and Dan Simmons, two difficult and prickly men though Harlan was king then and Dan was still the up-and-comer. I was mostly just a fly on the wall - fresh from Ellison's writing class. Later, I did some work on a project (kind of) with Simmons... he had changed.

Dan Simmons died. I have a lot of conflicting thoughts about this and an interesting story that I don't know if I should ever share. Anyways.

Sad to report that visual effects artist Chris Stoski has passed away. Chris was the ILM digital matte supervisor for "Star Trek" (2009), and was responsible for this amazing painting of the Enterprise under construction.

Oh no! I just found out that one of my favorite character actors died: Tom Noonan always brought such humanity to every role he played. A towering, unforgettable figure, he also gave us one of my most-used quotations on why film isn't really escapism. RIP

Fished the first issue of Scenario out of storage, featuring WHAT HAPPENED WAS.../Tom Noonan. This quarterly magazine was special: Four full-length scripts per issue (one unproduced), followed by atomically in-depth interviews with the screenwriters.
