I had dinner once with Harlan Ellison and Dan Simmons, two difficult and prickly men though Harlan was king then and Dan was still the up-and-comer. I was mostly just a fly on the wall - fresh from Ellison's writing class. Later, I did some work on a project (kind of) with Simmons... he had changed.

When you were a kid, did you ever meet another kid who was clearly out of their mind, and incredibly troubled and destructive, who made you really uncomfortable to be around, and you just hoped that they would grow up to⊠Not be like that? And then they grew up to be even worse?

sent us his character pick for this week's episode of Feeling Seen, he asked "...too obvious?" Always a good sign. Fans of the cinema arts, you gotta hear the singular film critic Walter Chaw and

The nurses still come at 4am. They call my name with their soft voices. They tell me they need to take my blood. I've been out of the hospital for a month now. I still hear them. Every night. They're like Prufrock's mermaids, calling to me. I wonder if it's a portent. I wonder if it'll ever stop.

Into my heart an air that kills From yon far country blows: What are those blue remembered hills, What spires, what farms are those? That is the land of lost content, I see it shining plain, The happy highways where I went And cannot come again.
