Geological.Biological. Hydrological. Climatic. These aren't just"natural disasters" anymore. They are nature's systemic response to human imposition. Our greed accelerates the frequency. It's not an "act of God," but a reaction to human action.

A Hampton Inn in Asheville just canceled my family's reservation because our address (incorrectly) showed Ashevilleāand the hotel bars locals within 50 miles. When I asked why, they said, "because of our homeless population," adding that most hotels here have similar policies. This is outrageous.

I don't know how many times it needs to be said that you absolutely should not let fucking "AI" anywhere near your legal contracts, either in creating them or evaluating them, but apparently it needs to be said at least one more time, so allow me to say it again, here, right now

As someone aptly pointed-out on another platform: the Epstein files aren't filled with trans people. They're filled with wealthy, straight, white, cisgender men.

Anyone who looks at Trump & sees *more than nothing* -- whether good or bad -- is not telling you anything about Trump, they are telling you about themselves, their own worldview, what they want. They are ascribing content, plans, intentionality, self-awareness, where there is none.

You know what, I have literally millions of words written over 40 years that could be compiled into an LLM representing "me" and still wouldn't come close to being me at all, your grandma's recorded history is confined to a bunch of extremely brief Facebook posts, how's that gonna go

Where are Democratic leaders in Congress on this?! This is literally Gestapo behavior, happening right here in the United States and for fundamentally and explicitly racist reasons. Have Dem leaders filed a bill and a discharge petition to stop this? Have they filed articles of impeachment?

Exactly this. People who work in technology and live here aren't opposed to new things; we're opposed to *harmful* things, and "AI" LLMs are increasingly in the second category.

I don't expect Geekwire to go into it for the same reason I'm not shocked that the linked blog post doesn't go into it: There are a hundred reasons why people here are opposed to "AI" and it's not just "because boring". Creative theft, environmental destruction, and worker rights are huge here.

At some point you realize that the prominent, powerful people you see on your screens are mostly morons who either got lucky or are saying things billionaires want to hear, and that nobody smart or competent is in charge, and we're all just collectively flailing, and it's a miracle anything works.

A very easy solution is to make a lovely punch. Put a bottle of rum on the side for people who want it alcoholic. Same with eggnog. I mean have other stuff too but a lot of classic holiday beverages are really easy to just do non-alcoholic as the default.

This is genuinely good news (itās wild that regulators only consider impacts to male bodies in their testing). But we desperately need safety testing for people outside vehicles. The auto industry keeps building models with higher crosswalk kill rates, but regulators donāt even test this so 5 Stars!

Itās widely known (and, I think, pretty uncontroversial) that learning requires effort ā specifically, if you donāt have to work at getting the knowledge, it wonāt stick. Even if an LLM could be trusted to give you correct information 100% of the time, it would be an inferior method of learning it.
