The AT Protocol (aka Atmosphere), Fediverse & Local-first movements are the reaction to the hyper-consolidation of the internet by mega-corporations over 2 decades. We've given up far too much for so little in return. This our chance, tech & non-tech, to restore balance, share ideas & connect.

Things that motivate me: - Sharing lived experiences w/ family & friends - Being out in nature listening to the sounds of the natural world - Collaborating w/ others who want to make our world a better place for all - Making & using technology that enable & empower us to achieve all the above

My takeaway from Atmosphere: it needs to be WAY easier for builders to get paid So I built at.fund at.fund detects the tools you use, and tells you how to fund the builders who make those tools. And if you're a builder, it takes seconds to add records to that tell your users how to fund you 👍

I wrote about my #AtmosphereConf experience. I hope it's as cathartic to read as it was for me to write. Thank you, everyone, for this amazing experience. All I wish is that we had more time.

atproto is fine but at the start of the sentance it would be Atproto which is awful. This is why ATproto is objectively correct and @dholms.at should issue a correction.

The community didn't hear "we're building this, and here's how we're working with affected projects." -Trezy This is the problem w/ BigTech & AI in general. Tech can be for the enrichment of common good OR to extract wealth for the entitled few. It cannot be both. Actions speak louder than words.

We're at the cusp of a paradigm shift where local-first software and decentralized protocols will shift data ownership and control back to users. UX design principals that embrace "local by default" with E2EE cloud-synchronization will unlock user-ownership. The future is local AND the cloud.

AI can be a powerful tool for the right applications. Responsible tech should work alongside people, identifying applications that fulfill human needs & enrich lives. People see AI being forced upon them unwittingly by powerful forces that don't care about the consequences to society & livelihoods.

Founders+Funders session at #atmosphereconf was a rollicking broad-ranging session thx @bmann.ca @ricardo.bsky.social for organizing below are some themes/observations we need to talk a LOT more about funding to achieve an Atmosphere where builders have stable housing, food to eat, and healthcare

🚨 the ecosystem is delicate #atmosphereconf there's a LOT of enthusiasm + talent, but: - no magical investor monies - grant options are THIN - many first time founders - many don't want investment - few other options - scary macro env it's a collective challenge we can just pay for things?
