Anywayzzzz what we're doing now is making an authed app.bsky.actor.getProfile query for the person you're trying to message, which gives you that nice viewer object with all the information we need.

We still have that available as backup, but it's sloooooooow for people who follow a bajillion accounts. Also, that strat doesn't include blocklist blocks, which opens a whole new can of worms🥵

In particular, to check if you're allowed to message someone, we *used* to query all their follow and block records. (So sue me!!! I am a plain ol' records girl first and foremost🫡🫡🫡 also I'm lowkey still figuring out what everyone is caching of the social graph and how best to access it)
