Big respect to @quillmatiq.com for sharing this personal experience. I think it's important for us as devs who have been in it for a while to share these. When I started I didn't know anyone else who knew how to code and stack overflow was always chastising new devs for their questions.

Since we're among close friends, a confession: when I was in college, I experienced some hateful engineers in the Linux community, and it kept me away from open source in my prime programming years. Sometimes the difference between an annoyance and a valued contributor is kindness and mentorship.
