For the first time ever, Los Angeles has seen a two-year decline in homelessness. We have so much more work to do, but these stories matter.

I’m focused on ending Veteran homelessness in Los Angeles so that all heroes, like David, have stable, affordable places to call home.

The best way to address homelessness is to prevent it before it starts. I’m proud of the new partnership between the Mayor’s Fund and the Superior Court of Los Angeles County to provide free legal support and help resolve eviction cases early.

Today, we announced a historic investment to address Los Angeles’ housing crisis, more than $300 million in affordable housing funding and an additional $14 million to help renters to stay housed.

We’ve been able to reduce street homelessness by nearly 18%. But we’re not done. These are the stories behind the numbers.

No one who served our country should be sleeping on the street. Through our House Our Vets Initiative, we’ve been able to bring more than 750 Veterans inside — and this urgent work must continue.

Through Inside Safe, outreach teams build trust and work with the community to make change possible, including recently bringing more than 40 people inside in South L.A.

This funding is a direct result of leaders working together to move Los Angeles forward.

Inside Safe is L.A.’s first citywide strategy to bring people inside and prevent encampments from returning. Some of the encampments addressed by Inside Safe have been in neighborhoods for years. We are seeing the first reduction after years of increases, that’s change we can build on.

I’ve pushed this work forward even amid federal hostility. Now, they are threatening funding cuts that would put people back on the street. That’s not acceptable. We’ve brought people inside, homelessness is down, and we’re going to keep going.

For decades, homelessness rose year after year. So did the human cost. That is starting to change. Street homelessness is down, and lives are being saved. We have to keep moving forward and not fall back into the patterns that failed for too long. Lives depend on it.

Our Inside Safe team brought more than 40 unhoused Angelenos inside this week, helping them transition off the streets and into safe and stable housing.

Today, Representative Sydney Kamlager-Dove and I announced nearly $3 million in federal funding we secured to support housing and transportation improvements in Los Angeles.

On the anniversary of Nipsey Hussle’s passing, we remember a son of South L.A. who turned vision into action. As he gained more, he gave more, investing in people and possibility. The City of Los Angeles officially designated Crenshaw and Slauson as Nipsey Hussle Square.

As a result of my Executive Directive 1, more than 40,000 affordable housing units are in the pipeline and over 6,000 are already under construction.

The farm worker movement fought for basic human rights long denied to some of the hardest-working people in our state and nation. Their courage and persistence helped inspire a generation of activists, including myself.

Today is a great day for Los Angeles: we are moving full steam ahead with what will be the highest ridership light rail line in the nation.

These are the basics that shape how we feel about our city, and whether our city is safe. Solar street lights equipped with integrated battery storage can provide dependable illumination even during grid disruptions, strengthening the City’s resilience.

We’re fixing what’s been broken for too long. Today, I launched a historic new Street Light Initiative that will repair and replace up to 60,000 street lights citywide over the next two years.

I was proud to celebrate the opening of the Ethiopian Community Center in South L.A., a new welcoming space that will provide critical programs for L.A.’s Ethiopian community. I was honored to help secure $750,000 in funding while I was in Congress to help turn this beautiful vision into a reality.

This week, 32 Angelenos came indoors through Inside Safe in South Los Angeles, moving from the streets into safe housing. This marks our 124th operation, made possible by outreach teams who build trust and connect people to services every step of the way.

Every fourth Saturday of the month, Shine LA brings Angelenos together from across the city to beautify our neighborhoods through collective action.

Marking the end of Ramadan, Eid al-Fitr is a sacred time of prayer, reflection, and community. Across our city, families and communities are coming together in gratitude, giving, and connection.

The farm workers movement was about securing basic, human rights that were denied to some of the hardest working people in our state and country. Their fight, their struggle, and their victories inspired me and inspired a generation of activists across the country.

Today, I signed a proclamation officially designating the last Monday of March as Farm Workers Day in the City of Los Angeles.

After 3 weeks of grazing in the Sepulveda Basin, this beloved herd of goats is headed to their next pasture, Corbin Canyon Park, to continue their wildfire prevention efforts. Keep an eye out for these busy workers in their new location!

My office, community organizations and regional mayors are working together to keep Angelenos informed and to offer assistance in the face of reckless immigration enforcement.

They came. They grazed. They cleared 35 acres. More than 1,000 goats have finished clearing invasive vegetation in the Sepulveda Basin, helping reduce wildfire risk. The pilot used targeted goat grazing to remove dry brush in an environmentally responsible way.

As a former nurse and a physician assistant, I know firsthand that this heat is something to be treated extremely seriously, and I’m making sure the City is preparing accordingly.

Tonight, we celebrate the films that inspire the world and an industry that supports so many working families in L.A. As we honor Hollywood’s biggest stars, let us also honor the carpenters, lighting technicians, writers, and the countless others behind the scenes who bring movies to life.

We have much more to do to save lives and to address encampments and street homelessness in our city, but this report underscores the importance of our strategy to bring people inside.
