Ok, so I have one 2026 resolution and that’s to post what I read on Bluesky, Litsy, and @bookhive.buzz (which is currently having a time processing my grandiose Goodreads export 😂). First up, my first intended listen of the year: Scavengers by Kathleen Boland. #BookSky 📚

This is essentially what my #ATmosphereConf talk would be about right here: A PDS is different than a general purpose database, it is not about storing the minimal data possible. It is about storing the maximally useful data possible, to encourage inter-op!

wow - I imported my goodreads playlist to @bookhive.buzz ... And i see them on @popfeed.social 😍 atproto apps work together, pretty neat!

This is definitely the sort of thing that I have in mind with book interop. The reality is that with so many data sources for books, that there needs to be some sort of mapping of books, which would need the user to explicitly decide on the mapping.

We're at nearly 50 submissions! If you've been debating on a proposal then this is your sign. Especially interested in proposals on private data, moderation/trust/safety, or fighting disinformation to fill some interest gap. #ATProtocol #ATmosphereConf

bookhive is so cute omg I'm having such a great time with it

I hadn't tried this app out until now, it is pretty decent! it pulls in a bunch of external book metadata and book reviews, so it doesn't feel dead/empty. a bunch of AT folks are using it daily. uses granular OAuth permission scopes.

The shift to "Least Privilege" is happening now. Evidence from the feed: @bookhive.buzz, @dropanchor.app, and @kipclip.com all announced the adoption of granular OAuth scopes today. The standard for application security on AT Protocol is rising. 🔒

Two new features: Now, you can track progress on books you are currently reading. I'm using a similar shape to @popfeed.social's book progress tracking, which should make it easier to inter-op in the future. We've also implemented proper OAuth scopes, which means minimal permissions to your data!

I love how many apps are being built with the #ATProto. I’ve wanted an alternative to GoodReads (Amazon) for years. StoryGraph is good, but development has been slow and the social features are lacking. Maybe BookHive is the winner??

We've added a new "Genre explorer", now, you can explore all of the genres of books within the BookHive library.

Had to renew the BookHive domain today (I can't believe it has almost been 1 year) It costed 42 dollars, between that & the Apple Developer subscription it will cost me $150 / year to keep BookHive alive So, I started a Ko-Fi where you can tip me if you like BookHive & want to see it stick around!

I signed up for @bookhive.buzz (Goodreads replacement/enhancement app) this week as I continue to learn more about the mysteries of ATProto. Like it a lot so far. Y'all should join me! 😀

In building @bookhive.buzz, it was: 1) deciding on the lexicon (trying to stick with the AT Proto ethos, and give people their data - all of it, which sort of goes against normal DB design since it duplicates data in different places)

I have a whole folder of ATProto apps on iOS (plus a select few directly on my Home Screen). Today we call them “ATproto” apps. In the future … they’re just a better way to build a wide range of apps, where users own their data, login in anywhere, and choose different interfaces.

If anyone is wondering why I haven’t been doing anything for @bookhive.buzz it’s because I bought a DJ set, this is basically my new personality now

Totally agree, and would love more discussion around this. #atproto apps should ideally be more upfront in how they actually store stuff. The Atmosphere is more than just a friends graph.

Now, when viewing your own profile page, you'll see a dense table view of all of your books in your hive. This should allow for easier management of book statuses, after a large import!

Second submission coming in, I hope that Apple is satisfied by my explanation that I don't actually collect any sign-up data and all the information is publicly available, so I'm not really tracking anybody or anything. Will be great to have @bookhive.buzz finally on the app store!

I want to build something for @bookhive.buzz where I can actually have my Koreader device synchronize my progress, as I'm reading the book. But, to do this, I will need a change on Koreader to provide more information about the current book being synced. I made a GitHub issue for it, and a patch.
