It's not an established plan or anything, but I think there's a possibility that we make Roomy as "on-protocol" as possible, and I'm excited at the thought of getting to contribute more to the ATProto ecosystem than we are now.

This is the best part! The next step is to send push notifications to users of a subscribed publication bc it can just piggy back off the firehose. No matter where you choose to write, you can always have your audience. It's the promise of Atproto for writing.

I feel like the Atmosphere is what we should talk about to normal people. "Proto" means something to us nerds, but it's just a foreign name or word to most people. "Atmosphere" is a normal word that could be a name, and it's also a fun reference to us nerds. Seems like a win-win, to me.

What’s confusing about is this idea that one can one-shot application development by handing an AI a thick specification document? If that actually worked, we’d still be building software using the Waterfall methodology. 🤷

Don’t let influencers fool you, coding with AI (Claude Code / Codex / Gemini) still takes a lot of work. You may be more productive, but expect long hours and many late nights. It’s like creating a 15-minute short using AI. It may look easy, but it often takes weeks of trials to produce that video.

I'm not very deep yet, but so far the Bluesky PDS code seems very modular and easy-to-read. It also looks like it might be quite re-usable. It might not be that hard to take just the pieces of the reference PDS that I need and customize what I want to... Not getting my hopes up too high yet.

My week-end side-project: make a PDS, maybe. So far I've skimmed the spec, and started playing with @rivet.gg. I'll be using existing libraries wherever possible, so it's not like an independent reimplementation. I'm going more for a customizable repackaging of the reference PDS if possible.

I just read / skimmed the whole ATProto spec, and I was quite interested to find how efficiently your ATProto repo can be replicated. I knew the firehose was useful to AppViews, but wasn't fully understanding that you can replicate the whole repo efficiently with it.
