Big win. Now you can leave Bluesky AND return to their servers if you wanted to. Folks who migrated to blacksky.app, myatproto.social, and cryptoanarchy.network were taking a leap of faith move over to servers hosted by Blacksky Algorithms. Hopefully this de-risks things for folks.

I just finished Riven by @cyan.com and it was amazing. Such a satisfying playthrough. Great world, puzzles that make you reason about the world and lore instead of feeling like you're just playing a game. Such a fun story and setting, too. I highly recommend it.

Has anybody else been having timeouts to the NPM package registry lately. I've been having a lot of hang-ups for the last 3 weeks or so. pnpm installs just get stuck and sometimes log timeouts. I haven't noticed it as much but I did see some crates.io timeouts too about a week ago.

In the latest iteration of @roomy.chat, as a part of @meri.garden's idea to make a clean interface between the frontend and the local "backend", we've been doing all of the data sync and persistance in a shared worker. ATProto login is happening in the shared worker, too.

I just setup reactive SQLite queries for Svelte. You can set reactive SQL bindings, and you can even make the SQL query itself reactive so that you can use a query builder that depends on reactive UI variables! This is going to be fun to see how nice it ends up to use in an actual UI.

Wow, I'm shocked at how much faster the WAL mode in SQLite can be. I'm naively creating a separate transaction for every single message, but I was able to go from importing 250 messages per second to more than 4000 messages per second: pragma synchronous = normal; pragma journal_mode = wal;

I've been busy coding some new stuff up in Rust for @roomy.chat in the last week and a half and, man, I am so happy to be writing Rust again. I don't know that I'm going to write any more TypeScript for server-side stuff, unless it's just a microservice with a few hundred lines or something.

The strategy for that is actually not as weird as it sounds: we let you login to a PDS with other OAuth providers. A community member already had a pull-request for the official ATProto PDS that has been tested to work with Discord, GitHub, and GitLab login. That way it's still "just" ATProto.
