This happened in Boston yesterday. They shut down I-93 for a state trooper's funeral procession. TV news has been going wall-to-wall with coverage after he was killed by a wrong-way driver. It was obviously a tragic death, but the response and hero worship, especially from the press is ridiculous.

I'm not a politics expert but I do think that Republicans walking around blatantly saying that they can't win without cheating is going to be a negative for them in the midterms and will only drive greater Democratic turnout. I think the bullshit in Virginia will motivate people even more.

Not a novel observation, but it really is continually striking just how much this country both utterly depends on public service workers--from electeds to teachers to many jobs inbetween--and also pays the vast majority of them like shit (and gets mad at the idea of paying them more).
