My community wanted to organize against ICE after an event yesterday. I worked on getting a seasoned rapid response organizer to attend. They decided that "it wasn't the time" for that and instead invited the chief of police. To organize against ICE.

It's not lost on me that the same people who are so pro-ICE are also the same folks speeding around in giant trucks with tinted license plate covers. Or that they are the same folks who consider any suggestion that they should not drive like sociopaths as an attack on their freedom.

Congress passed the Taft-Hartley Act in 1947 (over Truman's veto) to make general strikes so incredibly difficult to organize that there hasn't been one since. That there is a general strike happening in a major US city on such short notice is nothing short of a miracle.

It's kind of wild that they chose Minnesota for a major operation in January, are now surging across Maine in the teeth of winter, and will likely be in Massachusetts in February, which has often been one of our snowier months. Great planning!

just from a logistical standpoint, keeping 2K+ officers deployed in practically arctic conditions on the ground where the locals fucking hate you is a massive logistical task, hotels, car rentals, parkas, equipment are all a nightmare, and i am skeptical DHS has the admin capacity to maintain it
