Even as someone who advocates for road safety daily, I'm not immune. Bad street design is coercive. It can mentally push even the most knowledgeable driver into making unsafe choices that feel "natural" in the moment. The design is the problem.

I've written to the city transportation staff with praise for new bike lane projects and have gotten some lovely messages back. Also have written to construction or delivery companies when I see them do a good job detouring bikes and have also gotten positive messages back!

Drivers are mad bc driving is treated as an entitelment and ppl get angry when they think someone else is getting in the way of what they are entitled to. Thats why so many ppl turn into rage monsters the second the get behind the wheel.

When drivers complain about bad cyclists, I know they just mean they don't want us on the roads.

If you care enough about emergency vehicle response times to use it as an excuse to block bike lanes or low traffic neighbourhoods, you should be devoting every hour of the day to working out how to reduce the volume of motor vehicles on our roads.
