We were in the ER getting the news a year ago today. Tonight we went out to dinner to celebrate good health. Man, what a long strange trip it’s been. Grateful for every second. Not just social media grateful. Real grateful.

As someone who had a spouse with a very aggressive form of cancer so I am comfortable saying this….fuck this guy.

My realization came in 2015 when a nurse I worked with was taking care of a very small child of immigrants, and would constantly complain she was paying for his care. The child was like 3 months old and waiting for a heart transplant. That’s pretty much the extent of what we knew about the patient.

I appreciate this critique of the anti-Cassandra position. In my experience, the Cassandras weren’t “liberal east coast elites,” they were people like me who grew up in and/or currently lived in reddish or purple places, among people who were warming (or just acquiescing) to fascism.
