Trump is apparently claiming anti-fascists are “terrorists”. No anti-fascist was involved in any of the recent assassinations. He just wants to make it illegal to oppose his power grabs. Let him try to enforce this anti-American nonsense. I’m going to keep opposing his fascism regardless.

My first programming job was a union job. I would never have negotiated for myself, because I desperately needed the paycheck. Thanks to the workers of the Harvard Union of Clerical and Technical Workers, I didn’t have to. I don’t just support the labor movement: I know the difference it makes.

On Wednesday, an unnamed “investigator” at ATF leaked lies that blamed “transgender ideology” for the shooting. @wsj.com is the only outlet I saw try to verify the libel before printing it. We deserve a full investigation: who was the leak? Were agents actively promoting hate or just incompetent?

Market Basket is the rare company that has put its responsibility to customers, employees and the community over quarterly numbers, building for the long-term. It is disappointing to see that arbitration failed and Artie T. has been fired. I hope the company culture survives.

“Age Verification” is an invasion of adults’ privacy and sets us up for identity theft (including by young people). It also isn’t possible. We can’t reliably tell if a user is human, much less how old they are. All anyone can say is that a computer has a particular piece of information.

It’s Epstein File day. I suspect this politicized DoJ will continue to betray survivors, fail to provide the documents that implicate their boss, and redact way more than is justifiable. It is up to Congress to push back, stand up to wealth, and do their job.

We have experience from 18F and the US Digital Services showing us how US government software can be built well. We are missing the political will and technical experience to double down on what works.

I know software matters because I didn’t start out a programmer. When I waited tables, software handled orders, collected tips, split checks & tracked our time. When I worked at a primary care practice software scheduled patients, billed visits & ordered medications. Software matters to workers.

This is an example of people who don't understand the difference between different kinds of "AI" making decisions that will hurt real people. Large-Language Models generate language, not accurate science. The hard part of approving a drug is not writing words. Software needs to work for us.

Software jobs too often hide abusive working conditions behind decent pay and perks. Workers in every field have the right to organize for better conditions. Our representatives must update our labor and immigration laws to protect them when they do.

Congress needs more members like Beth: People who give a shit about other people and about a job well done. People who believe that society is something we owe to each other, something we build together. People who aren’t afraid of bullies or hard work. MA-06 is lucky to have such a great candidate.

I've known Beth for ages: wicked smart, understands tech really well, and cares about its impact on ordinary people. We need people in Congress like that.

Beth is a former manager of mine. They are thoughtful about process and people, and smart about intentionally and carefully chipping away at bad legacy structures. They have strong left-liberal values and a commitment to getting things done. I am overjoyed by their candidacy and hope they WIN.

I know Beth and what excites me is that we need somebody who can see through the bullshit big tech is bombarding us with because of decades of experience. I want somebody who fights for me and not who fights to make it easier for tech to exploit me.
