I once tried to talk a friend out of a Ring Camera and got the whole "if you aren't doing anything wrong, then you shouldn't be bothered by it and besides, it keeps us safe" spiel from them so this tracks.

I think about this a lot, and I also think that a contributing factor is how middle class people have been conditioned to feel safe when surveilled. Used to think Berkeleyan idealism was bananas. Now it seems some people think they don't exist unless the surveillance state is perceiving them.
