kudos to ALL the comedians who have spoken out forcefully against this, including Marc Maron (who remains one of our greatest national treasures), Leslie Liao, and yes, even that conservative dipshit Shane Gillis. Pete Davidson's agreement to this "festival" especially is just disgusting, C'MON MAN.

I don't know if people -- in general -- know what "authoritarianism" is. I don't know if they really know what "fascism" is. But I think they're far clearer on what a dictator is. Choice of words is very important right now.

There is no Democratic "membership" so that is meaningless. The Dems don't seem inclined to depose him. So your options are to either grudgingly support the Dems or try and make them so absolutely toxic they have to ditch Schumer for someone who would be on the exact same no win position.

If someone wants to dump a bunch of money into the "vote for the Democrats" bucket, don't threaten me with a good time. But you might want to check their priors first. The Tea Party was a civil war and while I won't go so far as to say the "good guys" lost, the bad guys definitely won.

Either Trump et al want to gut the government or not. If their message is to Congress "is fuck you, we don't need you" that sends a very strong message to Dems not to give them anything, and anyone considering federal employment to not since it's now at-will employment for a bad boss.

I am not sure what strategy they're running but if they intend to make every headline for at the least next week: TRUMP FIRES FEDS he's giving Democrats even less incentive to negotiate and we're headed for the Senate nuclear-optioning to keep the government open.

Sure, but since the Trump/GOP are refusing to negotiate *at all* with Dems, the only alternative is for them to agree to keep it open without getting *any* concessions of any sort. Which would literally make them complicit in everything he's doing. No good option.

Absolutely. Look, one of the main jobs of President is to put the right people in the right places to accomplish your agenda. So when the major qualification for working on the Sanders campaign seems to be how much you praise Bernie, that’s an issue.

I genuinely believe that, if his campaign staffing choices reflected his ability to create a cabinet, Sanders was nowhere near ready to be POTUS, and any Sanders administration would have been functionally do-nothing, because they'd all be off pursuing their pet interests.
