The idea that Mitch McConnell was a successful obstructionist is a pop-culture myth that needs to die. He largely failed; the ACA passed, Obama became a two-term POTUS. Where he DID succeed, it was because he had *bipartisan* aid from the anti-Obama centrist Blue Dog Dems — remember them?

This kinda imperial hubris is just fascinating. It's obvs not true (the Taliban are back in power, the communists still run Vietnam, etc) but more than that I find it baffling to want it to be true. The status "citizen of a country that does war crimes with impunity" is imo a bizarre thing to crave.

This is strongly my belief about what is going on with chatbot psychosis. It’s a kind of runaway disordered thinking brought about from having the wrong kind of conversation with another person (or even yourself), similar in ways to falling into a cult or conspiracy theory belief.

Like it’s crazy how little Stephen Miller seems to understand the actual roots of American strength in the 20th century. Until you realize that to him that actual power is meaningless unless it entails the ability to directly administer vast swaths of the globe populated by inferior nonwhite peoples

I’m usually at a moderate level of annoyance with the NYT but this is fucking outrageous. The US president doesn’t get to fucking pick another country’s leader, & headlines shouldn’t present it as just a normal decision, like picking a nominee for a mid-level federal agency. It’s not our colony!

There's a third dynamic, which is that they pick real name targets bc they can extend the bullying beyond the site. It's why both Will and Sky get doxed and emailed death threats. I am way more right wing than either of them but you simply cannot issue me a death threat bc you don't know my name.
