This is one thing that really makes me mad: people looking to exploit and monetize other people’s relationships and sources of joy. It’s sports betting, it’s MLMs, it’s dating site scams. Just arbitrage of joy. It sucks.

This is a small thing in the scheme of things (but maybe one of the key things): sports gambling substitutes enjoyment of the thing itself for having money riding on it. They sometimes feel the same but they are very much not.

My reaction to stuff like this threatens to push me in directions I’m not comfortable with, à la @kjephd.bsky.social’s earlier piece, if I’m not on top of those feelings.

The thing I don’t think Paramount is considering in going all in on anti-woke Trumpism is that whatever their ideological agenda, they’ve got shareholders that aren’t gonna indefinitely be content with “throw my money into a fire as long as it pleases Daddy Trump.”
