I was writing 14-16 page papers every two weeks last semester for *one* graduate math class at my state school.

Mostly on topic: my state school's physics comprehensive exams (quals) were extremely intense. I tried looking up MIT qual problems to study from and they couldn't hold a candle to the insane shit they threw at us.

Also the lifelong benefits of people assuming you are distinguished, intelligent sexy. Mostly in the context of employment. But others as well. I still get comments about my university even though it’s not something that well represents anything afterwards.

A really top state school will have a better educational environment and professors who understand they aren't Masters of the Universe, but unfortunately it's really hard to beat the connections you'd get at an Ivy.

If you have a choice between Harvard and a community college, you should go to Harvard

It's legit crazy how distorted the contours of *real* goddamn problems get in the hands of both social media and the news media these days. The Discourse about antisemitism is like this. The Discourse about transphobia is like this. Ditto anything involving male-female gender relations or dating.

it is absolutely a thing that happens that if a trans person is trying to be a regular person who belongs to the normal political party that supports their rights, members of The Community will "call them in" and tell them that their insufficient radicalism should embarass them

my brutally honest advice: avoid Trans Spaces specifically advertised as such and you'll be fine. they're separatists more than anything and you won't find them in (most) broader LGBT groups or like, technically-nonpolitical hobby stuff that happens to incidentally skew lefty
