Still appalled at how paltry and terrible the NYT coverage of the protests were and how nobody there feels any responsibility to address the criticism. This was not something that caught them off guard. This was many levels of decisions.

This is a fun example of what often happens when a cryptographic system can't be broken analytically. You steal what you need--either the plaintext or info that allows or helps you to read the encrypted material. In this case, it wasn't stealing, though. Just straight up archival research. Love it.

Take note of all these people turning out for protests in small towns in red states. Remember them the next time you’re inclined to write an area off because “they voted for this.”

Please be conscious if you protest this weekend that there are feds at the protest. They look like you and they sound like you, not like Steve Buscemi in that one clip with the skateboard. Thinking you can spot them is self delusion. Nobody you haven’t met needs to know your last name.

I agree with this, which is why I think Dems need to start laying the groundwork for it by talking about SCOTUS in explicitly partisan terms. They aren’t “conservative justices,” they’re Republican or MAGA justices.

One of the key ways you refuse to comply with fascism is by becoming even louder and more fearless in supporting vulnerable people. You SHOW that you are unwilling to throw the "undesirables" under the bus if only for self-preservation because under fascism you will also become undesirable one day.

generally speaking, and with the glaring exception of november 2024, the more directly democratic an institution has been, the better it has checked Trump (eg grand and petit juries); the more elite and insular, the less effective (the Senate, the Supreme Court, big business)

If you're writing about how Stephen Miller's going to use this as a pretext for going after the left I think it's incumbent on you to say how he plans on doing that. Otherwise it's just scaring people into submission before he's done anything.

The thing to understand about the language policing of the MAGA folks declaring angrily that (accurately) calling Trump a fascist is incitement is that this standard only goes one way. Their violent rhetoric is 'legitimate,' after all, because they don't view you as fully human anyway.

As grim as this story may be, there's still much to be inspired by. Look no further than this attorney for the children, who rushed to the airport to stop the planes. She stood near the tarmac, warning any officials she saw that they’d be complicit in violating a court order if the planes took off.

the thing about trans rights is that we fight the civil rights issues of our time. nazi chuds have made this the issue of our time. it's not more *important* than other civil rights issues, but it is the battleground of the moment, and we have to meet the moment to support everyone's rights.

A.I. is popular because it gives you the experience of being a boss: you get to give annoyingly specific instructions about how to do something you don't actually know how to do yourself, and then claim credit for the end result.
