At the grocery store, 4 siblings, aged 12-ish to 4-ish, are peering into the frozen desserts. No parent in sight. 12yo: “Bruh. BRUHS. Here’s the strat: we all ask for ONE thing. If we ask for different stuff, she’ll say no. But if we ask for one, she’ll be so happy we agree that she’ll buy it.”

I learned about this a couple of months ago. There is a caveat, however. If you take your mail to the counter during PO working hours, you can ask the clerk to postmark it in front of you. This is hardly a solution, but might be information worth tucking away.

As of 12/24/25, USPS changed policy on when they postmark mail. Mail dropped off is no longer guaranteed a same-day postmark. Tax returns & other time-sensitive items are now stamped when they reach a regional processing center, which may be days later. Plan deadlines accordingly to avoid penalties.

Marx had many things to say about this, but it boils down to this: pushing AI onto the general populace is intentional, the GOAL is alienation - to unhook that link in your brains between labour and product. It's why fast fashion is made where you can't see it.

Still a few days to go, but as of right now the Baltimore homicide page shows 133 homicides for the year. It was consistently around 330/year until four years ago, when it started its steep decline. It is now well under HALF of what it was. This is a miracle.

One of the most incredible shots I've ever gotten, in Yellowstone. This coyote walked over a ridge in the blowing snow and posed for me, with a small grin on its face, the snowfalkes like stars in the background. The desolation and beauty of life and nature is grounding, and so good for the soul.

There are a few really fine common names for birds out there - and near the top of my list are the "Go-Away Birds" from Africa. While many birds do indeed go away as soon as birders arrive, these don't seem to do it any more than most. The name is onomatopoeic for their call.
