Iām dismayed by the decline in the quality of everyday items, systems, and interactions. Not only because our quality of life is eroding, but because once youāve normalized the enshittification of everything, itās much harder to notice it or to fight it.

Nearly everything is more cheaply made now than it was decades ago, from appliances to clothing to actual houses themselves. Shrinkflation is hitting food packaging. Customer service is nonexistent. The entire internet enshittifying. All while everything costs more and the wealth gap grows.

Iāve been thinking a lot about the shifting baseline concept as applied to everyday life. People in their 20ās now have no memory of highly functional systems, products (from blenders to sweaters) that were so well made you could hand them down across generations, or even helpful customer service.

1/2 I see the 2 Johnnies pop up so much more on tv adverts now. Which, I am fucking horrified by. I know the world is going through a particularly regressive time but it is so upsetting to see the likes of Bord Gais encourage it.

Had a painful middle finger on my left hand for days. This morning, agony. Then I googled it with perimenopause and loads of articles about painful hand during this time. But I honestly feel I could google 'left eye pops out every Tuesday at 3:15pm' and it would say it is a perimenopause symptom

It's poison. I recently saw an archive clipping related to ABBA's 1979 tour, the caption under a photo of the women was "Flabba." Alison Moyet was asked by a German journalist if she was "ashamed" to go onstage "looking like that." Dumb fat jokes persist in The Devil Wears Prada. It has to change.

On the back of the CMAT stuff, last night I watched the Kylie doc It was 1991 when I first became aware of Dannii Minogue If you remember, you remember, but I cannot express enough how much the press labelled her the 'chubby' sister. Followed her for years. I was 13 & being told that this was fat

When even someone as confident and talented as CMAT is affected by the level of body-shaming vitriol aimed at her, what hope do the rest of us have. Body positivity is worthwhile, but it can only go so far when society still treats commenting on people's bodies as acceptable. We've so, so far to go.

That CMAT stuff is genuinely so upsetting. The current beauty standard is based on the aesthetic of very young children. Hairless, rail thinness, bleach blonde hair, plump lips etc. It is not what grown women look like. Its what an 8 year old looks like. I am so angry for her, for all of us.

Heat kills. Yet, without fail, all Irish media outlets are covering the current heatwave using beach and ice cream pictures. Barely any mention of the harms of heat, nor climate change fuelling more frequent and severe heatwaves.

Being bald means people assume you wear a hat in the summer just to protect your head from getting burned. To prove these people wrong, I cut a hole in the top of my hat, leaving my bald head fully exposed, and allowing me the room to be fashionable in a hat without it being a bald thing.
