Music theory and history professor. Will help you with your music theory homework. Dad.
pinned post!
Putting it out there that I’d like to branch into writing more pop musicology/music theory content for general audiences. If your publication would like a music essay that is fun, informative, and well-sourced, send me a message. Below, I’ll give examples of things I’ve written about previously:

Absolutely love this book with the exception of the the handling of Ian Malcolm, who is such a naked self-insert and mouthpiece for Crichton that it gets genuinely annoying at times

It’s interesting how many people are willing to publicly eat shit for Trump in exchange for 6-12 months in his good graces. Many bad people in that country.

One of the things I tell my students is that there is no easier way to insult me permanently than by expecting me to spend my time reading something that nobody spent the time to write. I expect a decent number of readers from all walks of life feel the same

Yep. Like, not saying it automatically makes you an irredeemable person or whatever, but there are a lot of people in the world who are good leaders, I'd rather just choose a different one. Sorry

The NYT says today’s
#NoKings
protests had “no shortage of skeptics,” and then quoted exactly one of those skeptics: The chairman of the Ole Miss College Republicans (as of 2025.) But of course, the Times doesn’t ID him as such. He’s just a Concerned Youth.

FWIW the No Kings protests are good. A close family member was involved in ICE community monitoring patrols that had a directly beneficial impact to immigrants in their town, and they met new people to add to their network at protests like these. Protests aren’t going to save us, but they are good.

FBI reported 1700 arrested "child predators" in 2025. That's around 1/200k. There have been now 7 pardoned J6ers arrested for sex crimes against kids, out of 1600 J6ers total, around 1 in 230. You can play w the denominator a bit (135M adult males) but it's still around 350x the rate
