Rewatching the Sopranos for the first time. Itās astonishing how many lines from the show have been integrated into our cultural vocabulary. Itās like a Gabagool Hamlet.

There are few things that haunt me more than someone dying this young. Her essay on coming to terms with her mortality was one of the more gorgeous things Iāve read, and a reminder how lucky we are to be here. RIP.

On the New York-ness of Wes Anderson's 'The Royal Tenenbaums,' released on this day in 2001:

āThe Royal Tenenbaumsā at 20: When Wes Anderson Imagined New York (Published 2021)
The filmās vision of the city is at once entirely made up and very real seeming, both dated and contemporary. But the movie couldnāt outrun current events.

One thing that gets me about this beyond the statement itself is you can tell how practiced it is. This man either came up with or adopted this messaging and role-played this answer complete with hand gestures many times. This is the best he has to offer.

My annual reminder that Andy Pettitte took PEDs and lied about it multiple times, giving half-truths each time new information turned up that he could not deny. Which is to say that you should ignore anyone who supports his Hall of Fame case while knocking Manny, A-Rod, etc. for PED use/dishonesty.

Kevin Mackey, who fueled Cleveland State's Sweet Sixteen run in 1986, has passed. Bob McDonald reflects on his time at CSU and afterwards.
loading . . .
Remembering Kevin Mackey
If youāre a Cleveland State fan of a certain age, youāve probably imagined a timeline that took place if the events of July 13, 1990 had never happened. But for Kevin Mackey, those events probably saved his life, even if his job as CSUās head coach wasnāt. While it seems like his college head coaching career was brief, Mackeyās outstripped influence at the helm of the Cleveland State can still be felt today.
