Bus Lane... or SCANDAL? 😱

19 fatalities and 2,772 crashes should be enough to warrant a redesign of MLK Way. But if we need to look at recent average daily traffic data: 7,335 NB vehicles in two lanes on MLK between Andover St and Renton Ave. 9,199 NB vehicles in one lane on Rainier Ave between S Walden St and S Byron St.

Seattle’s MLK Jr Way is a dangerous “highway” for all who use it—cars, wheels, transit & feet! I shudder when I see kids and elders navigating its complex crossings (e.g., going to the Boys and Girls Club). It‘s time to make it a 2-lane road and transition the other lanes to other uses.

Does MLK jr way s need to be four lanes? Seems like there isn't really enough traffic to justify it.

One of the things I have been most wrong about is that I thought once the impacts of climate change manifest we would see bold climate action, especially in scientifically literate progressive cities. Instead we get glossy vision documents, plans, and self congratulation while doing too little.

Prioritize public transit!!

Dear @wadems.org: It is ridiculous that we don't have free school meals for all in our state. These are the standards used to determine eligibility. In this state, many well above these levels struggle. With the federal government cutting many benefits, these meals become even more important.

If we’re going to rely as a city on public transportation to get our kids to school, as many cities do, we need to build routes and headways with schools in mind, not just downtown commuters.

Packed and very late @kingcountymetro.bsky.social buses this am. Kids are late for middle school, Veterans are late for medical appointments, and I’m late for work. We fail our communities when we don’t prioritize public transportation.

We took a King County Metro bus to this trailhead for $2.75 (kids ride free). Bonus: we got to snuggle en route to hiking, instead of stressing our way through traffic. This sort of joyful, public, climate-friendly access to nature should be year-round, in all the places. ❤️

These VA workers were helping veterans. One had even found $10 million in cost savings. But they were fired under a false pretense in the name of efficiency.
