Okay, I'm assuming 2% drop off and I'm seeing she needs 54.2% or so to win, as is another friend. But an elections data guy I usually rely on for this sort of thing and tend to defer to until I can compare our cases says 54.6%. Both are lower than she got today! Monday matters a lot now. (ARG).

Who is Katie Wilson? She’s head of the Seattle Transit Riders Union. Her platform proposes to massively increase funding for affordable housing, cut red tape for development, shift away from single occupancy cars, & develop the transit network. And she may well be the next mayor of the city.

In my spreadsheet (which makes assumptions about fall off, write-ins, probably has mistakes, etc.), Katie needed to average 54.6% to win by a little over 100 votes. Today she got 54.85%. A friend says she needs 54.2% from here on out--will do my own math shortly.

Yeah. By my math, we're about 62.7% counted (assuming a flat 280K votes total), and if it's a flat 50K added today we'll end at about 80.6% counted. So if the heuristic holds, we'd see softer than expected shift today for a Friday drop, and then Wilson hitting the after-burners on Monday.

Me too! My bad handwriting spoiled my ballot one year and it took just a couple minutes to get it handled. Make sure your vote counts!

The number of received ballots has now surpassed 285,000, exceeding turnout from 2021! Many of those were Election Day voters, and over 100,000 votes have not yet been counted! There’s much to feel hopeful about. This is YOUR city!

Friday/Monday is most of the rest of the votes. We are still in a "if the pattern works normally, we win" cycle. Katie needs to average about 3.5% higher than she did today. If recent history is our best guide, she should do a good bit better than that.

Today's drop was solid. The bad news is that tomorrow's has to be better. The great news is that the last Friday has been way steeper in 2/3 of these examples, both of which behaved more like this race on day 3. Stay strong!

More specifically - we are probably getting to drop box votes today, but it could be a blend. We don't know if they are Capitol Hill dropbox votes or Magnolia dropbox votes. So the evidence today will be directional, but is unlikely to be dispositive. Tomorrow should be far more clarifying.

🚨 As of 8:00am today, King County Elections is reporting that turnout in the City of Seattle has reached 54.83% with 277,102 ballots received. A note about last night’s update: turnout was actually reported as 50.26%. So turnout has grown another 4.5% overnight.
