I don't endorse everything that Ron says, but he's 100% correct about the narrative of tech job losses in Seattle vs. Bellevue. Also, Amazon's layoffs have very, very little to do with state and local taxes here and much more to do with AI, slowing retail sales, and other macro factors ...

So excited for many of the challengers we're seeing -- incrementalism is tired!

Speaker Laurie Jinkins said here that incrementalism is all they can do, voters would reject anything else. But what if voters reject *that*? They did in Seattle last year. They've now consistently voted to tax the rich. Voters might now see #waleg incrementalism as the problem, not the solution.

What that says to me is even the insiders now recognize how totally broken the legislature has become. Dems have stable majorities in a trifecta state, but routinely fail to deliver. Schools are facing fiscal crisis. They couldn't even do 75 year bonds to avert cuts to the ST3 rail projects.

What's notable to me about these challenges to #waleg incumbents (Sabio-Howell taking on Pedersen, Ron Davis taking on Gerry Pollet, Rep. Cindy Ryu taking on her seatmate Sen. Jesse Salomon, etc) is these are well-connected political insiders mounting the challenges. Not radical outsiders.

NYC, LA, Seattle (Katie Wilson is mentioned in the article) are all realizing that a genuinely left and democratic politics requires embracing the YIMBY agenda. You absolutely love to see it. Because that's how we make these cities affordable for everyone.

Trump may inadvertently become the biggest booster of renewable energy in the dumbest way possible.

It's genuinely frustrating that for so many legislators, whether or not public transit can exist depends *entirely* on whether or not they or some mythical group of people they dream up will be able to drive cars to/onto that service. I'm shocked ST doesn't have an "auto train" RCW requirement.
