About one quarter of people who visit the emergency room for treatment of chest pain have panic disorder, a type of anxiety disorder that causes repeated, often unexpected, panic attacks and fear of having another panic attack. Panic attacks can have symptoms resembling those of a heart attack.

A recent meta-analysis shows using cannabis can increase risk of cardiovascular event. It’s important to know your overall heart disease risk before smoking cannabis. Using products with lower concentrations of THC, smoking less or using edibles are ways to reduce your risk.

More people are doing cold plunges. Sports medicine doctor Dr. McMullen says there seem to be benefits to cold-water immersion, particularly for short-term recovery and pain reduction. People with medical concerns should talk with a doctor before trying cold water immersion.

Broken heart syndrome is officially called takotsubo syndrome, but also known as stress-induced cardiomyopathy. It can also be triggered by any intense stress, not just heartbreak. Recovery is usually quick, but recent research shows that there can be more long-term damage than previously thought.

Creatine helps supply quick energy for short bursts of high-intensity activity such as lifting weights, but it doesn’t build muscle on its own; it only makes resistance training more effective. Remember that it’s not a replacement for getting enough sleep, hydrating and eating enough protein.
