Returned from a wonderful symposium in honour of the 50th anniversary of Richard Henderson's and Nigel Unwin's 1975 paper on the structure of bacteriorhodopsin - the paper that started the field of membrane protein structural biology. Also fulfilled my dream of ringing the LMB seminar bell.

If I'm reading this right, using a resistance marker to select for modified bacteria counts as doing "Gain of Function" research. Transforming bacteria with a plasmid that uses a marker is GoF. That's idiotic.

US healthcare has long been run as though it has a 200% tariff and the proceeds of that tariff are split largely among insurance companies and administrative systems. Those who seek to impose some of that into Canada are not our friends. Andrew Boozary is a national treasure.
