The biggest lie the James Bond films sold wasnât any of the stuff about hot spies, magic cars or poorly made cocktails, itâs that there was a government organisation willing to drown insane billionaires in a vat of radioactive coolant for the betterment of humanity.

4 years ago a UVF commander was caught transporting a long-barrelled rifle, 2 machine pistols, several magazines of ammo and a large no. of loose bullets in his car. None of this attracted a terror charge. The evidence wasn't strong enough

the charcoals Hockney made in 2014, after a stroke, that show what it is to make something: you show up every day and look at it, wrestle with it, honestly. itâs in the doing. RIP to the master.

Britain would actually benefit from a wide ranging look at corruption in military spending because for a country to have the sixth largest military expenditure in the world and have people screaming like our soldiers are parading with painted broomsticks like the late Soviet Union is suspicious.

I've always been a little suspicious of calling any artist 'the greatest' as though there were some league table. But as the years passed, and the work continued it's restless advance, and the way of seeing never faltered, it became clear to me that David Hockney really was ours. RIP.

David Hockney - what a life and what an extraordinary artist. I spend many happy times at Salts Mill, and his creative energy and passion for art were undimmed until the very end. A great Yorkshireman and a towering figure of British culture. He will be missed.
