you've heard of a hardware watchdog, that will reset your system if you don't feed it often enough. Now introducing the watchcat, where it will just fuck up your stack pointer if you don't pet it often enough, or if you pet it too often, what's the right balance? who knows!

TIL that since Rust 1.79 (god I'm old) these trait bounds: ~~~ Foo: Bar, <Foo as Bar>::Baz: Qux, ~~~ can be collapsed into: ~~~ Foo: Bar<Baz: Qux>, ~~~ Types and traits get massive in my project because of const generics and const traits, so this is really satisfying <3

I just noticed that even if you set minimum iOS to 18.6, xcode/clang still sets CPU target to A10 even though that iOS only supports A12 devices. setting it to A12 unlocked vectorization for several hot path loops, lower my CPU time on efficiency cores by over 10%. TL;DR: sweat the compiler details.

2. I don't mind if people don't want to use Rust but instead of rewriting it from scratch every single time, why don't you write bindings and make them available for everyone? This is both easier and more maintainable, and would actually be helpful for the community.

Feels like the "accidentally left an extension trait unsealed" error would be easier to avoid if Rust made trait sealing something you could annotate on traits. Right now the different flavors of sealed traits are done by exploiting Rust's privacy rules.

i kinda hate how so much of the rust ecosystem insists on shipping the code generators themselves instead of the generated code. when my project doesnt have any protobuf idl files i bloody well shouldnt need protobuf installed to use your crate!! stop that! just generate it for me!!
