The idea that Operation Overlord and the entire W. Allied campaign in Europe was to prevent the spread of communism is *utterly* ridiculous and utterly ahistorical to what was going on. It had always been the overall goal by the Allies for a second front in Europe, especially by Stalin since 1941.

Crazy that the Soviets were so insistent on an allied landing in France, given it apparently was just to stop them from spreading communism there.

The timeline where D-Day doesn't happen is a timeline where the Soviets make a separate peace with Germany, which is something Stalin threatened to do if the second front wasn't opened up.
