Blogging about the wonderful world of fiction and the humanities. Well really mostly posting now.
pinned post!
To the extent my country is exceptional it is because we are a country of all people and none. The world made manifest. A nation of nations. A people united in truly radical ideas of freedom, equality, and justice for all. Any attempt to undo this is treason and also seeks to make us ordinary.

The real mindfuck with the progressive/centrist split in the democratic party is that contrary to popular perception, it was the progressives who were far and away more reliable in their support for Biden's domestic agenda than the centrist wing of the party

Literally how? Saying youâre going to make a BioWare game without gay in this day and age is like saying youâre going to run a Taco Bell without tortillas or ground beef. I donât even like anything BioWareâs made recently and I see the huge glaring flaw here.

The press basically regurgitated ICE's framing, which implied he has spent over a quarter century on the lam as a gun smuggler and schools are too dumb to notice. The GOP, which is basically an anti-Des Moines rural party here, has certainly latched on to that theory,

the jeffersonian tilt of anti-trust is one reason, imho, some of its loudest advocates occasionally fall into a reactionary producerism, whereby the small business owner is always Good and anyone who seeks to limit their autonomy is Bad

You do not get to draw the line for society. You absolutely get to draw it for yourself. If you are not willing to do that, you are abdicating one of your fundamental responsibilities and privileges as a thinking being. That is the one thing they can never take away from you.

Often studying history people will first learn that large amounts of their national mythology is a garbage contrived for bad or at least simplistic reasons. What they will often not learn is the necessary next step where they realise they've overcorrected just a bit too much
