I’m happy to report that along with @aurinmpls.bsky.social and @angelaconley.bsky.social, I was part of the unanimous vote of the Planning Commission to remove the name of Cesar Chavez from the Minneapolis street carrying his name today.

It was an honor to vote with @aurinmpls.bsky.social on this amendment. As the city faces deeper disparities in wealth distribution and the social safety net at risk, the city of Minneapolis needs every tool available to help our unhoused neighbors. Thank you for you leadership, CM Chowdhury!

While we may all have quibbles with our local government, the notion that less democracy and less oversight will solve them seems dubious at best. I urge you all to contact the charter commission (see link in Josh’s thread) and let them know why retaining your city council rep’s voice is important.

The warming center is a community effort. Many of the people staffing the warming center were once unhoused. Today’s lunch at the warming center was made by high school culinary students. We depend on each other, as neighbors do, to make this possible.
