I'm not an abolitionist of all of psychiatry. The drugs are great so thanks. I know if they cared about mad people the drugs wouldn't destroy our bodies but I digress. I'm an abolitionist of caging people for madness. It's well possible for people in mental crisis to be cared for in community.

Anyway, the Rise & Remember plan - which wouldn't require city funding - is just an all around better plan and has the blessing of George Floyd's family. The city needs to get it's act together and move forward w what is IMO the only truly viable proposal.

Maybe the city didn't fund the Urban League proposal bc the city funded the UL's Sharon Sayles Belton Center just a few blocks up 38th back in 2002, which UL sold only 13 years later. Now that bldg is a for-profit pre-school that received a huge tax abatement last year.

Designating fentanyl a WMD will worsen fentanyl misinformation, which does not prevent overdoses -it makes them deadlier- & harms anyone who could ever need pain treatment, anesthesia, & more. Patients already refuse one of the safest, best studied, easiest-to-dose pain meds because of such misinfo!

Yesterday, Frey said he “will continue to work collaboratively with the Council” and that “voters were clear in their call for a collaborative approach from City Hall.” Waiting until Council couldn’t vote to override his humane encampment ordinance veto was cowardly and cruel to unhoused people.

This is a deterioration of democracy, politics, games, and complete disregard for unhoused people and public health. We had the votes to overturn the veto, so we are now seeing anti-democratic maneuvers being played which will ultimately hurt unhoused people. 2/

The City Council scheduled an override session yesterday to consider the Mayor’s vetoes. Instead, Mayor Frey waited until there were no more council meetings to prohibit an overturn of the humane encampment response ordinance (even though he said he would veto it last week). 1/

People are sleeping in storefronts, which is MORE DANGEROUS for them, because people like the author of this piece and our ~mayor~ don’t let them stay in encampments. Can’t cause a problem and then complain about it, Kevin Norman!

The busiest bus line in the most populous county in Minnesota is the D Line. These photos were taken within a block of it on either side. Even if sidewalk clearing occurred, parking clearing took precedent. Municipal sidewalk clearing is a moral obligation. Frey opposes it, Schaffer opposes it.

Mayor Frey says he is already planning to veto this. A bare minimum policy. This is in addition to his refusal to implement emergency housing vouchers & the expansion of stable homes stable schools earlier this year. There’s no plan and no will to implement solutions that are funded.

When Frey says that he's going to veto the humane encampment response ordinance while maintaining his administration's encampment policies, that is him telling us that he's okay with this sort of thing. Same goes for the CMs that voted against the ordinance.

$140K is a lot of money and if Jacob Frey wanted a higher paying job he could have not run for reelection and instead gone to work at a law firm or as a lobbyist. We had 3 other great candidates who would have gladly taken $140K to be mayor.
