I cannot say this loudly enough: we need everyone to know what is happening at Delaney Hall. 300 detainees inside are on Day 7 of a hunger and labor strike as of today. ICE is beating, gassing, tasing and assaulting protestors outside every night, and it is getting worse.

It was a massive error in judgment for Mayor Frey to nominate Chief O’Hara while there were active investigations into very serious accusations that had been rumored for months. This is what happens when you prioritize optics and political expediency over governance and accountability.

This is also another indictment of Toddrick Barnette’s lack of oversight of MPD and its leadership. Minneapolis residents deserve better from leaders of such important public safety departments.

When private actors engage in harmful behavior like keeping space vacant, the city needs to step in. Otherwise we pay the price in lower tax base and empty streets.

No. Commercial real estate firms will often protect valuations over increasing short-term revenue. It might be legitimate (not sure what "illegitimate" would mean in this case) but it is bad for the city and therefore worth thinking through possible interventions. Vacancy fees would be one idea.

This is tragic, but also good news because there are things we can do to prevent these deaths! Safe storage of guns and of prescription and street drugs keep kids safe. Seatbelts, car seats, and driving the speed limit all help with car-related fatalities.

During operation metro surge, which saw unidentified, heavily armed federal agents snatching people off the street for no reason other than their skin color, the MPD did nothing to keep the people of Minneapolis safe. Instead, they collected overtime pay for being ready to mass arrest the people.
